What is the difference between free traffic and paid traffic?

Updated: Mar 28, 2023

The difference between Free and Paid traffic is smaller than what we could possibly think of.

Free Traffic; refers to visitors that come to our website or platform without having us pay for ads for them to find our site or platform. Free traffic is 100 percent organic, and it typically includes traffic from search engines ( such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc.), social media platforms, referrals from other websites, and direct traffic (people who know and type in our website's URL directly). Free traffic can be challenging to generate and it takes time to build up. It is often considered more valuable in the long term run, as it represents a potential source of customers without having us to pay for anything. The best thing about it is also, that there is a certain amount of trust from the customer part because they know us, or know about our content.

Paid Traffic, on the other hand, refers to visitors that come to our website or platform, as a result of paid advertising campaigns on Google, Facebook, or other forms of online advertising where we can pay to place our ads in front of potential customers.

Paid traffic can be a quicker way to find a lot of people who did not know about our content, and it can be valuable to gain visibility while you build up our free traffic sources. The downside of paid traffic is just that we might spend a lot of money on ads, and not get the result we wanted or expected.

Why is traffic so important?

Traffic is very important especially if we are someone who is willing to make money online. We need people or traffic to monetize our Youtube channel, blogs, affiliate marketing, online business, and much more. It is just like in real, if we have a business or we provide a service, we want a lot of people to know about our business, and about the service that we are offering. The more people know about us, or the higher the traffic we can get, the higher the potential money we can make online. So traffic is very valuable for us to succeed online.

What is the importance of organic traffic?

Organic (free) traffic is very important if we want to build something valuable, and want to maintain our success for a long period of time.

Organic traffic helps our content (blog articles, websites, Youtube channel, online courses, and more), to rank on search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, Youtube, and more, which will lead to more visibility of our content, and increase of our blog, Youtube channel, or site authority.

Free traffic also, helps us to have built trust and relationships with our audience which is one of the keys to success online for a long period of time.

What is the importance of Paid traffic?

The importance of paid traffic is just, it gives us high visibility to potential customers or audiences in a determined period of time. It is just like paying someone who has a wider audience than us, to talk about us to their audience.

It can be a quick way to scale our business or service.

It is not going to help us to rank or build trust with the audience, and we have to spend a lot of money paying advertising companies.

In brief paid traffic, only help us to be visible to a wider audience, and it can help us to scale our business very fast, especially when we don't want to spend a lot of time scaling the business organically.

Is paid traffic more important than organic traffic?

Both of them are important, and it depends on our goals and interests. we can use paid traffic if we want a quick jump on the beginning and appear to a wide audience directly. We can use organic traffic if we want to build trust and relationships with our audience, and it will take us time to build it. Lastly, we can do both also, if we want to mix both of them.
