What Time Should You Stop Eating to Lose Weight

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

Losing weight can be a challenging goal, especially when we exercise a lot, try to get enough sleep, and eat as healthy as we can. However, there are also some valuable tips that can make our weight loss journey harder if we do not respect them, such as what we eat before bed, and the time we eat it, which can lead to weight gain.

After doing some research, I was able to find valuable information on what can impact our weight loss journey. Here are some tips that I was able to find.

What Time Should We Stop Eating to Lose Weight: There is no specific time for us to stop eating, to help us lose weight. However, it is recommended to stop eating 2 - 3 hours before going to bed to give our body enough time to digest the food properly before we sleep.

Does Not Eating After 7 PM Help To Lose Weight: The timing of our meals is not the most important factor, but it has some impact on our weight loss goal. If we want to lose weight, it may be helpful to avoid eating for a few hours (2 to 3 hours) before going to bed. This is because our body's ability to burn calories slows down in the evening, so any calories we consume before bedtime may be more likely to turn into stored fat instead of being used as energy.

What Happens If We Eat Before We Go to Bed: Eating before bed can have a negative impact on our health. Here are how it can impact us:

  • It will disrupt our sleep time by making it harder to fall asleep or stay asleep, as our body will be busy digesting the food, which can cause discomfort.

  • Consuming excess calories before bed can lead to weight gain, as the body may not have enough time to digest all the food. So we are forcing our bodies to burn calories instead of being in a resting state.

  • Impaired digestion: If we lie down right after eating, the food and stomach acid in our stomach can move up into our esophagus (the tube that connects your stomach and throat), which can cause a burning sensation in our chest and throat, known as acid reflux or heartburn.

Here is a valuable video called: Is It Really So Bad to Eat Before Bedtime? From Wall Street Journal, that might be helpful to us.

In conclusion, it is recommended to avoid eating 2 to 3 hours before bed to promote better sleep quality and support healthy digestion and weight management.
